Jacques Torres May Open Ice-cream Parlor (and Carts!) in Time for Summer

When we talked to Jacques Torres last week about his Hershey’s fiasco (he has now launched an online petition and Mouthing Off reports that David Hyde Pierce has signed it in person), he hinted at progress in bringing an ice-cream parlor to the office space next to his store in Dumbo. His rep quickly silenced him, saying everything was still in the planning phase, but from what Torres now tells the Feed, the project may be less than a month and a half away.

At 62 Water Street, adjacent to his Dumbo factory, Torres plans on making two indoor stationary carts the focal point of his ice cream parlor. He also promises beverages, cupcakes (!), pints of ice cream to go and his already famous ice cream cookies. On the flavor front, there will be 12 rotating varieties. Though he hasn’t finalized what they’ll be, Torres assures the Feed that caramel, peanuts and (of course) chocolate will be involved, and there will also be sorbet.

Pending permits, carts are also coming to his stores in Soho and the Upper West Side. Mister Softee, prepare to meet Mr. Chocolate.
