Closings

During its May 13 meeting, the State Liquor Authority canceled the license of Selena, a Mexican restaurant that doubled as a postprandial dance club, Al Ritmo de la Noche. It’s not clear why the hammer dropped on Selena, or why the place has apparently closed (its number is disconnected). Sure, there were bailarinas salsa dancing for hire there, but for the most part everything seemed above-board — not like the illegal nightclub a Long Beach couple was hosting in the basement of their house. One thing’s for sure — between this and the closings of España en Llamas and Acapulco Bar (the latter had its liquor license officially revoked last month), Hell’s Kitchen is losing a lot of its sabor.
