early and awkward

Mindy Meyer Got a Few Votes

Real, breathing people used their inalienable right yesterday to cast a vote for Mindy Meyer, the 22-year-old, sort-of serious State Senate candidate from Brooklyn most famous for her stupid, shiny website and having no knowledge of politics. The incumbent Democrat Kevin Parker carried the race 97 percent to 3 percent, leaving Meyer with 2,553 votes, or far too many to be cast only by people related to her by blood or Facebook friendship. Meyer, who will be known for a few more hours as a “viral” candidate and then promptly forgotten, did not bother showing up to her one scheduled debate or even updating her website as the election approached (nevermind to reflect her loss), but she did overperform in the sense that her vote total somehow topped her follower count on Twitter by more than 1,000.
