Who Is Charles Spetka, No. 32 on the Observer’s Real Estate 100?

He’s the president of Boston-based CW Capital Asset Management, which, because of the economic downturn, is newly a major power player in the Manhattan commercial market. He now controls the fates of the Riverton Houses, the W Hotel Downtown, and Stuyvesant Town. It’s his first time on the list, but Jerry and Rob Speyer — whose in-hindsight boneheaded $5.4 billion purchase of Stuyvesant Town eventually put the complex in Spetka’s hands — are still sitting pretty at No. 11 on the Observer’s annual list.
