The pairing of luxury gym-chain owner David Barton, 44, and club promoter Susanne Bartsch, 59, was one of those only-in–New York combinations that was so bizarre it somehow worked. In the most recent issue of New York Weddings, Barton recalled their 1995 nuptials:
“We walked in together, and then walked down the aisle with our son, Bailey, afterward. Susanne’s ‘dress’ was by Thierry Mugler, and we were married by a gay black priest from the church of anything goes. We had 43 bridesmaids—Kate Pierson, Betsey Johnson, Karen Black, and Richie Rich, among others.”
(You’ve got to look at the dress to understand. The muscle-bound Barton himself wore a loincloth.) Sadly, according to “Page Six” this morning, they’re splitting up. Barton’s moved out, and while they’re not filing for divorce, he admits he’s looking for love. The newest parlor game among club kids and gym bunnies? After marrying a costumed club queen fifteen years his senior, what type of love he’ll end up with this time.
