Michelle Obama’s epic inaugural eye roll is poised to be one of the best-loved gifs of all time, and thankfully the quip that sparked it may not be lost to the ages. Lip reader Larry Wenig tells Inside Edition that chain smoker John Boehner asked the president, who supposedly quit, if he had a cigarette break before the luncheon, then joked, “Somebody won’t let you do it,” prompting the first lady’s reaction. That sounds plausible, but the Daily Mail’s three lip readers couldn’t confirm that, and Boehner’s spokesman told The Hill, “That is not true.” You can either trust Inside Edition’s reporting, or choose your own obnoxious Boehner quip.
