Paul Ryan Is Still Trying to Repeal Obamacare

Paul Ryan is set to unveil a new budget framework this week, and in a preview on Fox News Sunday, he confirmed that his budget assumes Obamacare will be repealed. An incredulous Chris Wallace responded, “Well, that’s not going to happen,” but Ryan would not be deterred by reality. “Well, we believe it should, that’s the point. That’s what budgeting is all about,” he said. “It’s about making tough choices to fix our country’s problems. We believe that Obamacare is a program that will not work.”

Though the House voted to repeal the health reform law more than 30 times, after the Supreme Court upheld the law and President Obama won reelection, even John Boehner declared that “Obamacare is the law of the land.” Wallace tried to point this out, saying, “This was a big issue in the campaign between Romney-Ryan vs. Obama-Biden. They think they won and they think that’s one of the reasons they won.” However, Ryan explained the flaw in that logic. While technically Obama received more electoral college votes and gets to be the president, Romney-Ryan sort of won too. “I would argue against your premise that we lost this issue in the campaign,” Ryan told Wallace. “We won the senior vote.”
