Spitzer’s Old Running Mate Is Still Going With the Other Guy

Former accidental governor David Paterson was backing Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer for comptroller long before he knew his ex-boss was running. “I don’t know if I would change my endorsement,” he said yesterday, “but Eliot Spitzer is a dear friend and a person who long before he picked me to become lieutenant governor believed in me and encouraged me.” And yet a promise is a promise: “I know David is going to stand with me, vote for me,” said Stringer on the radio this morning. Sure enough, Paterson called in right away to affirm his support for the one not named Spitzer. He just won’t forgive the guy for leaving him in charge.
