One of the Most Right-Wing Members of Congress Just Praised Hillary Clinton’s Leadership Skills

One of the central claims of Hillary Clinton’s campaign is that she is the kind of leader who can work with anyone. Even though her name has become synonymous with bipartisan rancor, Clinton maintains that, when the cable-news cameras turn away, Republicans admit that she’s actually a pleasure to work with.

“Now, I imagine that some of you are sitting at home thinking, Well, that all sounds pretty good, but how are you going to get it done?” Clinton said in her address to the Democratic National Convention. “Well, look at my record. I’ve worked across the aisle to pass laws and treaties and to launch new programs that help millions of people.”

The Democratic nominee’s campaign has buoyed this claim by cataloguing the kind words that elected Republicans have had for Clinton throughout her time in government. These quotes tend to date back years, as few sitting GOP office-holders are willing to vouch for Team Blue’s standard-bearer during a general-election campaign.

But on Thursday, Clinton’s leadership skills received a fresh endorsement from a most unlikely source.

“I’ve sat across the table with Hillary Clinton eye-to-eye, and when you’re working outside of staff and outside of the press, she is somebody I can work with,” Iowa representative Steve King said in a speech at the Des Moines Register’s Soapbox.

Steve King is no squishy RINO or “cuckservative” — he’s the kind of Republican who likens immigrants to dogs and demands to know what nonwhite people have ever contributed to “civilization.” He is one of Trump’s most steadfast supporters on Capitol Hill.

And he appears to be getting ready for a Hillary Clinton presidency. Which probably isn’t a great sign for the Republican nominee.
