Interviewing an Olympic Hero Is Basically Like Meeting a Drug Dealer

Interesting note from our man on the ground in Vancouver, Dan Friedell: “It turns out that unless you’re a rights-holder, like NBC, you can’t shoot video inside Olympic venues or practice areas. But a group like USA Hockey is trying to grow the sport and wants to provide any and all media with access to the players. On Monday, the athlete du jour was goalie Ryan Miller. So I get an e-mail from the team’s press liaison about an intersection where I can meet the players. It’s a five-minute walk from the Olympic Village that involves walking past a McDonald’s, Burger King, and a gelato factory. Next to a car wash/oil-change garage I find Ryan Miller, getting interviewed by ESPN, the Associated Press, and CNN. The gelato was good.”
