Mets Finally Find Themselves a Catcher

In their never-ending search to use every catcher on earth not named Bengie Molina, the Mets gave the okay to their PR department to let Daily News scribe John Harper catch Johan Santana in Fort Myers yesterday. The idea of the piece is for Harper to be able to tell how Santana is recovering from off-season surgery, though we suspect what was really going through Harper’s mind while Santana pitched — like it would be for any sportswriter — was “holycrapdon’tlettheballkillme.” It’s an entertaining piece, and a reminder that, no matter what other problems the Mets might have, they get to send one of the best pitchers in baseball to the mound every fifth day. They might not be a hot ticket the other four days, but Santana is always worth the price of admission.
