Say what you will about Norm Roberts, but the guy wasn’t exactly bringing in prep stars from all the way across the country. New St. John’s coach Steve Lavin, the former UCLA coach and surprisingly entertaining ESPN broadcaster, landed his first top dog yesterday: L.A.’s Dwayne Polee Jr.. Polee is a small forward who, as described by the seedy sports underbelly that is the recruiting of 15-year-olds, is athletic and not much of a shooter — yet, anyway. He’s the 26th best small forward in the country according to ESPN, which we guess means something. We just hope Lavin didn’t tell him how cold it gets in Queens.
