This Is Why Baseball Doesn’t Have a TV-Blackout Rule

So! The Jets have this new stadium (ohyeahthegiantsaretheretoo), and everyone is all excited about it, and it will be the greatest thing and crowded and packed and will usher in a new era of NFL supremacy for the Jets. It’s gonna be fantastic. People will gather around their TV sets to … wait … what???

“There will not be a blackout of the Ravens game,” [Jets owner Woody] Johnson said on Thursday. “I’ll just make that statement.”

Well, that’s good, considering that game’s on Monday Night Football and the first Jets game at the new place. Why is this an issue again? Well, the Jets are having trouble selling their crazy expensive Personal Seat Licenses, and because the NFL has a “if your game doesn’t sell out, we don’t show it on TV” rule, Johnson and the Jets, if they don’t figure out a way to get those sold, would be shut out of TV for the opening of their new stadium.

This is definitely not going to happen, but if it did, this would be about the most embarrassing thing that could ever happen. Hey, here’s your new stadium, fans … psych!
