future dynasties

Mikhail Prokhorov and Avery Johnson Watched the NBA Finals From Courtside Last Night

It’s possible they discussed the Celtics’$2 92–86 win in Game Five, or Kobe’s 38 points, or how only one other Laker (Pao Gasol) cracked double-digits in scoring. But we’d like to think that — after the two discussed what Prokhorov called (with a smile) the “simple task” of building a “dynasty team” in a private meeting earlier in the day — Johnson spent the night explaining to his new boss that buying both teams and renaming the winner the Nets would not only break a few of the league’s bylaws, it wouldn’t really count toward his guarantee of a title in a “maximum” of five years.
