The Mets Have Had Just About Enough of San Juan

As much fun as the Mets’ surprising season has been so far, it’s worth remembering that one of the main reasons it has been so much fun has been the impossible overachieving by the rotation. Suffice it to say, R.A. Dickey and Hisanori Takahashi weren’t going to be this great all season, and their flaws have exploded in the crazy air of San Juan. The Mets lost 7–6 last night, giving up a walk-off hit to Dan Uggla after coming back to tie the game in the top of the ninth. The worries about Dickey and Takahashi are enough now that people are actually talking about Oliver Perez coming back, and they’re not saying it with the fear of God in their voice. If the Mets trade for Cliff Lee in the next two weeks, the first two games of this series will be a good reason why. Tonight, Mike Pelfrey ends this brutal side trip to Hiram Bithorn Stadium. The Mets still have the wild card, by the way: magic number 85, yep yep.
