Thierry Henry Retirement Tour Hits New Jersey

Proving once again that the MLS is where aged European soccer stars go to die, French striker Thierry Henry finally introduced himself to the city yesterday, announcing his signing with the New York/New Jersey/Eastern Seaboard/This Side of the Mississipp’! Red Bulls. Henry is 32 but is signed through 2014, which means if you think he’s creaky now, just wait. That said, he’s a legitimate soccer superstar, and one who wants to come here: He said yesterday he would have been here earlier had it not been for his desire to play for France in the World Cup. (Boy, that turned out to be totally worth it.) The Red Bulls play the Columbus Crew at home tomorrow, but Henry won’t be at that; he’s expected to make his debut next Thursday in a friendly against Tottenham Hotspur FC. Oui!
