Good News: The New Meadowlands Stadium Turf Is Safe to Play On

Remember how some players complained about the turf at New Meadowlands Stadium when the teams first worked out there? And how, maybe or maybe not coincidentally, Domenik Hixon tore his ACL on that turf during the Giants’ very first minicamp practice there? Well, that’s all been taken care of in advance of Monday’s Jets-Giants preseason opener, according to Tom Coughlin and a spokesperson for FieldTurf. Don’t believe them? They even brought in a Penn State associate professor of soil science and turfgrass to evaluate it, and he found it to be safe. And on matters of playing-surface safety, we tend to believe the guy with the title of associate professor of soil science and turfgrass. [ESPN New York]
