If the Giants had their own Hard Knocks, the star this week — assuming Eli Manning didn’t have trouble remembering the names of his four 3-year-old children — would be wide receiver Victor Cruz, who scored three touchdowns in the exhibition opener Monday and is now getting the soft-focus human-interest stories. He’s a UMass alum who grew up in Paterson, New Jersey, as the son of a fireman. He was undrafted by the Giants but made a nice little national-TV push, to the point that people are asking Sinorice Rice and Mario Manningham if they’re worried. He’s also on Twitter (@TeamVic) and seems to contribute to a group Tumblr about art. Interesting guy. He’ll still probably get cut.
