The new Forbes franchise-value reports are almost out — these rankings are fun, but, as Deadspin proved this week, not always 100 percent reliable — and in the NFL, the Jets and Giants are doing fine and dandy. They are both projected to be in the top five of the NFL in total revenue, and if everything keeps running smoothly, “they may challenge the Cowboys, Redskins and Patriots, the top three revenue-producing teams on Forbes’ list.” That’s the happy part. The scary part is if there is indeed a lockout next season, the immediate loss of revenue will hurt the Jets and Giants disproportionally more because of the amount of debt they carry on the new stadiums. One solution — one both teams are pursuing, anyway — is to have as many non-sports events as possible, like Jerry Jones has done in Dallas. Or, you know, just go ahead and try to play a football season next year.
