The Hennepin County, Minnesota, medical examiner has ruled that Derek Boogaard’s death was accidental and was caused by mixing alcohol and oxycodone, a powerful painkiller. The medical examiner said that no further data will be released. Boogaard, who played just 22 games for the Rangers before sustaining a season-ending concussion in December, was found dead a week ago today in his Minneapolis apartment. Boogaard had reportedly spent time recently in the NHL/NHLPA Substance Abuse & Behavioral Health Program. [AP, Star Tribune]
