Gary Carter’s family tells the Daily News that the Hall of Fame catcher has Stage 4 brain cancer and that his tumors are inoperable. The paper reports that according to a family website, Carter — who is being treated at Duke University — spent Memorial Day weekend relaxing by his hotel’s pool and spending time with his family. Over the weekend, his family was reportedly told by doctors that they were “99 percent sure” that the eleven-time All-Star had a Grade 4 glioblastoma and that it was likely inoperable. For video of Carter in happier times, we direct you to this montage the Mets showed at Citi Field over the weekend, as they wished him well from the stadium scoreboard. [NYDN]
