SB Nation New York’s Jeff Freier took it upon himself to determine the “perfect New York team to root for” using a rubric of ten-point categories created specially for the occasion. All teams in the four major professional sports are represented, with criteria like “underdog status” (more is better), “embarrassing moments” (less is better), and “likability” (outsiders might argue that none of these teams have any) taken into account. The whole process is, of course, completely subjective and up for debate. For instance, as a Knicks fan, I’d argue that no team featuring Renaldo Balkman should be anything less than an “eleven” for likability. Also, “Landriness” should be a category, and the Knicks should bust the scale on that one, too.
