The Sports Section’s Favorite Athlete Had a Rough Day Yesterday

John Skelton.

As you may know, this blog last year declared John Skelton its official favorite athlete. (Skelton, you see, attended Fordham, Joe’s alma mater, and was drafted by the Cardinals, Will’s pro team of choice.) And so it’s only fair that if we’re going to gush with pride when Skelton, say, leads a game-winning drive to beat the Eagles, that we also admit when he struggles. And yesterday, against San Francisco, he struggled: He threw no touchdowns and three interceptions in the 23-7 loss, and was eventually benched in favor of third-stringer Richard Bartel. Skelton’s quarterback rating yesterday: an ugly 10.5. It’s okay, John. You’re still the tops in The Sports Section’s book. [AP via ESPN]
