Last night, the Northeast Conference Tournament — the loveliest little tourney this side of the Mississip’, the prettiest darned bracket you’ll see the whole live-long day — kicked off, and NYC area school ended up going 2-1. Top seed Long Island breezed past Sacred Heart 80-68, and down in Staten Island, Wagner beat Central Connecticut State 87-77. Sadly, the other NEC NYC school, our beloved St. Francis, lost at home to Quinnipiac 80-72. This won’t be the year St. Francis makes it to the NCAA Tournament for first time, darn it. So, stage is set for Sunday afternoon, with two NYC home games in the NEC semifinals. At noon, Wagner will host Robert Morris, and at 6 p.m., LIU hosts Quinnipiac. Both games will be on the MSG Network, but honestly, what else are you doing Sunday? Go see ‘em.
