Sunday’s a Day for Bolt and Murray

Usain Bolt of Jamaica celebrates winning gold in the Men’s 100m Final on Day 9 of the London 2012 Olympic Games at the Olympic Stadium on August 5, 2012 in London, England.
Yeah, he’s pretty far ahead.

It’s difficult to come up with two different athletes than Usain Bolt and Andy Murray, one an all-time legend, the other an affable Brit who seems destined to be known for never winning Wimbledon. But they both had glorious Olympics yesterday. Murray won a Gold Medal for Great Britain — the country’s first in more than 100 years — by beating Roger Federer; that doesn’t count as winning Wimbledon, but it’s still a career highlight. But Bolt was the true amazement, rope-a-doping all competitors and critics by fooling them into thinking he was vulnerable and then blowing past everybody like he always does. Everybody has their favorite Olympic sport, and ours is the 100-meter dash— the pure, all-out, Fastest Dude on Earth dead sprint. Bolt is the best we’ve ever seen at it. It seems bizarre that humans even get that fast.
