party town

Art, A.L.S., Actors, or Gun Control

Tonight’s boldfaced parties:

Whitney Museum Fall Gala and after-party. Whitney Museum, 945 Madison Ave., nr. 75th St., 6 p.m. Promised guests: Uma Thurman, Shirley MacLaine, Rufus Wainwright, Lorne Michaels, Michelle Williams, Ivanka Trump, and the man himself, Regis Philbin. We’ve been watching a lot of televised sports lately and wondering how it’s possible that one guy named “Regis” has more charisma than everyone working in sports broadcasting combined. When did TV executives decide that everyone announcing an athletic contest had to be a self-righteous white-bread eunuch? Besides Marv Albert. We like Marv. And Regis, of course, which was the point.

Project A.L.S. Tomorrow is Tonight Gala. Cipriani 42nd St., 110 E. 42nd St., nr. Vanderbilt Ave., 6 p.m. Allegedly confirmed: Caroline Rhea, Katie Couric, Gina Gershon, Donna Hanover. And that’s just one of many exciting Cipriani-based events tonight — read on!
The Acting Company’s Masquerade Costume Ball gala. Cipriani Wall Street, 55 Wall St., nr. Hanover St., 6:30 p.m. Promised attendees: Angela Landsbury, Tom Fontana, Patti LuPone. We live across the street from Tom Fontana, and sometimes we can pick up his wi-fi. Tonight’s the night we’ll go crazy with it.
• Stand Up for a Safe America benefit for Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence. Cipriani 23rd St., 200 Fifth Ave., 6 p.m. Scheduled to attend: Ray Kelly, Richard Belzer, Geoffrey Canada. Incidentally, the Cipriani Website describes Soho as New York’s “artist’s quarter.”
