party town

Nathan Lane or Baby Jane

Tonight’s boldfaced parties:

Butley premiere party. Cipriani 23rd Street, 200 Fifth Ave., 9:15 p.m. Butley, opening on Broadway tonight, is a comedy about a professor distraught when his gay lover leaves him on the same day that an academic rival publishes a masterpiece. In other words, it’s a Little Miss Sunshine prequel. Promised party guests include Butley star Nathan Lane, Hope Davis, Ivana Trump, Brian Grazer, Rocco DiSpirito, and Lasse Hallstrom.

Absolute Wilson premiere. Guggenheim Museum, 1071 Fifth Ave., nr. 89th St., 7 p.m. After attending the premiere of an adulatory movie about himself, playwright Robert Wilson will be celebrating his birthday with scheduled guests including David Byrne, Philip Glass, Jane Holzer (!), Winona Ryder, Jeff Koons, and Donna Karan. He’s having a better day than Butley, for sure.
Central Park Conservancy Halloween Ball. Rumsey Playfield, Central Park nr. 69th St., 7 p.m. Martha Stewart, Patrick McMullan, Ross Bleckner, and the ubiquitous David Byrne are slated too attend. Martha must be bummed she missed all of last year’s Imprisoned Martha Stewart costumes because she was imprisoned.
