We’re not saying they’re open to the public, and we’re not saying you’ll necessarily be able to get in if you show up. But here are the big-name parties on tap for tonight. Expect to hear about them in the next few days’ gossip columns.
• Alex Kuczynski’s Beauty Junkies book party. ‘21’ Club, 21 W. 52nd St., nr. Sixth Ave., 6:30 p.m. Could an event be any more ur-Sex and City than a party at ‘21’ for a book about plastic surgery? We suspect Candace Bushnell won’t even have to be driven to the party. Rather, she’ll float toward it involuntarily and inexorably, like a moth making its way to flame. On the list of promised attendees: Jay McInerney, Nora Ephron, Steve Kroft, and Arthur Schlesinger Jr., whose skin requires a lot of work to look so taut and youthful.
• Ralph Lauren spring 2007 collection show. Saks Fifth Avenue, 611 Fifth Ave., nr. 50th St., 6:30 p.m. Between this and Kuczynski, we can’t imagine how hard it was to be a fashionista tonight. Such dilemmas!
• Friends in Deed benefit. Balthazar, 80 Spring St., nr. Crosby St., 7 p.m. Hosted by Anderson Cooper with promised guests Mike Nichols, Diane Sawyer, Jerry Seinfeld, Diane Von Furstenburg, Barry Diller, and Tim Gunn. Friends in Deed is a charity that provides support to people with terminal illnesses. Can’t argue with that, but “Friends in Deed”? Do you really want to suffer a pun-cringe every time you think about your terminal-illness support center?
• Museum of Television and Radio’s Tribute to Jerome Liebling with Ken Burns and Friends. 25 W. 52nd St., nr. Fifth Ave., 7 p.m. Liebling is a professor of photography at Hampshire College, by the way, and this is open to the public; we just like the idea of the flannel-wearing, history-contemplating Burns wandering by accident into the Kuczynski-Bushnell Zone of Fashion and Ephemera taking place about 100 feet away.
