Tonight’s boldfaced parties:
Curse of the Golden Flower premiere. Screening at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center, 7 p.m. Dinner at Gabriel’s Restaurant, 11 W. 65th St., nr. Central Park W., 9:30 p.m. Expected: Curse star Gong Li and director Zhang Yimou, as well as Glenn Close, Tom Brokaw, Steve Buscemi, Darren Aronofsky, Dan Hedaya, Christopher Meloni, and Placido Domingo. In 1984, Hedaya starred in the Coen brothers’ debut film, Blood Simple, as a cuckolded Texas nightclub owner who buries his rival alive after beating him unconscious with a shovel. In 1989, he made guest appearances on Who’s the Boss? AND Family Ties, playing his Blood Simple character.
Coast of Utopia opening-night after-party. Tavern on the Green, Central Park W. nr. 67th St., 9:30 p.m. Scheduled revelers include Billy Crudup, Ethan Hawke, and Martha Stewart. When did the tide turn against Ethan Hawke? People liked Gattaca and Reality Bites at the time, but now you can hardly get anyone to admit it. Was it because we all grew up? Or because Hawke wrote a novel? Or was it because we all grew different facial hair while he stuck with the wispy dork-stache? Yeah, that was it.
