• Qatar Airways gala. Frederick P. Rose Hall, Lincoln Center, 7:20 p.m. Expected: Maggie Gyllenhaal, Peter Sarsgaard, Bryant Gumbel, Chloë Sevigny, Gayle King, and others. The gala is being thrown in celebration of the fact that Qatar Airways now offers flights to JFK. Two Middle East–related parties in New York tonight! (See below.) Which may be more parties than are currently going on in the actual Middle East.
• Afghan Hands launch party. Sikkema Jenkins Gallery, 530 W. 22nd St., nr. Tenth Ave., 6 p.m. Guests expected include Claire Danes, Hugh Dancy, Julianne Moore, Parker Posey, and Bobby Flay. Afghan Hands is a charity for Afghan widows and not related to Afghan Hounds, a common (and unfortunate) misconception.
