This morning, the Post couldn’t decide whether “MADMAN” or “GUEST OF DISHONOR” best expressed its sentiments about Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s visit to Columbia this afternoon, so they went with both. Uncharacteristically, the tab got its ass kicked by the Daily News whose cover blared “THE EVIL HAS LANDED” (ooh, bet they exchanged high fives in the bullpen over that one). Inside, the News went with the slightly more subdued “Iranian Mad Man Walks Among Us.”
“If I were a president of the university, I would not have invited him,” Hillary Clinton told Wolf Blitzer . “He’s a Holocaust denier. He’s a supporter of terrorism. But I also respect the right in our country to make different decisions.” Borough Park assemblyman Dov Hikind upped his international profile by denouncing Columbia’s decision to allow Ahmadinejad to speak: “There is no excuse to invite this madman, this little Hitler … This is immoral. This is outrageous. This is sick,” he said. Meanwhile, Salon is getting bothered about the bother, saying right-wing hawks are trying to turn Ahmadinejad into an enemy head of state in hopes of starting another war. But perhaps the most profound statement is this bedsheet hanging from a Columbia dorm window, which simply states that Ahmadinejad is NOT a baller! (It appears the Iranians agree; they’re wondering why we’re all getting so worked up about a pres who they say is little more than a figurehead.) Columbia’s student newspaper, the Spectator, will be live-blogging the speech on their Ahmadineblog. And they say the kids on college campuses today aren’t political!
