Martha Stewart’s Dog Died

So, we were reading Martha Stewart’s blog yesterday (get over it) and we stumbled across a very upsetting post. Turns out Martha’s beloved dog, Kublai Khan Paw Paw Chow Chow Chow (again, get over it), passed away. As everyone knows but may not admit, losing a pet can be even worse than losing a relative — say, for instance, you’re 17 and come home from a rehearsal to find your dog’s dish and bed gone and your mom sitting in the living room with red eyes and a collar in her hand. It’s pretty much the worst feeling in the world. So we can’t blame Martha for blogging about Paw Paw’s death with a slew of sentimental pictures and an inexplicable narrative from the dog’s point of view (example caption: “I went outside for one last pee”). Kublai Kahn Paw Paw Chow Chow Chow (again, Jesus, get over it) was perhaps the most adorable chow chow we’ve ever seen, and the moment when her other dogs try to hug him is incredibly upsetting, even if they are on the kitchen counter at the time. Even the oh–so–Martha Stewart doggy body bag (with a bow, of course) is touching in a way. The domestic diva, like any of us who have lost a pet, is dealing with it only way she knows how. If you haven’t had that experience, you’ll be sure to crack up over the post. But if you have, you’ll understand how even a prison-hardened media executive could be reduced to tears by reading something as ridiculous as “The Rainbow Bridge.” It’s funny how sometimes it takes a dog to make a human. —Jocelyn Guest
