Brooklyn to Find Out What Happens When People Stop Being Polite, Start Getting Real

Just when you thought Brooklyn had reached its natural limit of stereotypes, MTV brings in a whole new slew of them. The network just announced that the next installment of its twenty-year-old reality show, The Real World, will be filmed in Brooklyn. With the borough still reeling from news that a Brooklyn version of Sex and the City is in the works, this might push local denizens over the edge. Get ready for an onslaught of articles with MTV producers bleating about how Brooklyn will be, like, the eighth roommate on the show (the “earnest one,” obviously).

While word on the street is the kids will be settling in Cobble Hill, they might want to check out Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connolly’s recently abandoned mansion in Park Slope. It has nine bedrooms and even includes “servants’ quarters” where they can stash the token minorities/gays production crew. Williamsburg would also be a convenient option. The proliferation of overpriced lofts makes for easy hot-tub and group-shower installation, and the proximity to the L train ensures that the gang can quickly get into Manhattan-style trouble whenever an episode’s plot seems to be slowing down. —Noelle Hancock
