Republican Senate incumbent Saxby Chambliss beat opponent Jim Martin last night in the Georgia runoff election. Democrats had hoped a victory for Martin and one for Al Franken in Minnesota (where an extremely narrow recount drags on) would give them a 60-seat majority, allowing them to break Republican filibusters, but no such luck.
