Democrat John Cooper, a legislator in Suffolk County, is seeking a public-relations consultant to help him determine whether a run against Kirsten Gillibrand would have a chance of success. Cooper raised nearly $1 million statewide for Obama last year, and would be entering a very crowded primary field if he does choose to run.
