Gay Marriage Bringing Heterosexual Adversaries Together

In the never-ending legal wrangling over Prop 8, an unlikely alliance has been formed between lawyers Ted Olson and David Boies. The two argued against each other in Bush v. Gore — Olson for Bush and Boies for Gore — the case that essentially ended the Florida recount and granted the presidency to George W. Bush in 2000. But instead of holding a grudge against one another, they’re now working together to challenge the constitutional legitimacy of Prop 8 in federal court by contending that the equal-protection clause supersedes the popular will of California voters to deny same-sex couples the right to marry. Olson successfully utilized an equal-protection argument in Bush v. Gore as well, so who knows, maybe he can make it work again. We wonder if liberals would then forgive him for the past eight years.
