Anti-gun zealot Mayor Bloomberg, in his latest assault on liberty, has suggested a city law punishing the carrying of a loaded firearm while drunk with a year in jail and up to a $10,000 fine. “Carrying while intoxicated is just as dangerous as driving while intoxicated, and it should be just as illegal,” he said yesterday, in that way of his where he makes outrageous freedom-grabs sound reasonable. “You can always strengthen your laws,” he added. Well, sure, you can. But should you? Once drinking and gun-toting is outlawed, what are we going to menacingly wave in peoples’ faces when they unintentionally bump into us at the bar? A cocktail napkin? That’s not what our Founding Fathers would have wanted.
