A new Marist poll, the first since Bill Thompson secured the Democratic nomination, is a mixed bag for the comptroller. The good news for Thompson is that he’s only down 9 percent among likely voters (hardly an insurmountable number) and that, as his TV advertising begins, 29 percent of voters have yet to form an opinion of him (maybe they’ll like him a lot!). Plus, a slim majority of voters are “tired” of Mayor Bloomberg. On the other hand, only 37 percent of Thompson’s supporters are truly voting for him, while 58 percent are simply anti-Bloomberg. Also, 62 percent of Thompson backers expect Bloomberg to win. Sounds like a real enthusiastic bunch. [Marist, Brawl for the Hall/NYDN]
