At a town hall yesterday in New Orleans, a small boy, pain and sadness in his eyes, asked President Obama a simple, poignant question: “Why do people hate you?” Obama first pointed out that plenty of people actually like him, before explaining that in politics, the opposing party “pokes you” in order to “keep you on your toes.” It all sounded so fun and innocent, as if Obama and the people comparing him to Adolf Hitler and calling him a foreign-born Antichrist are just horsing around at a slumber party, pillow feathers flying everywhere before they all get winded and pass out in their jammies.
