At last night’s premiere of Fantastic Mr. Fox, we asked Meryl Streep — who voices Mrs. Fox in the stop-motion adaptation by Wes Anderson — if she did anything particularly special to get into the role. “You know, I didn’t really prepare,” she said. “I was really sick when I made this. Really sick. And I brought my daughter to Paris with me and she was getting me all sorts of cough medicine and stuff and I had a very sort of deeper resonance in my voice” — at this point she changed her voice by several octaves — “than I do right now, and I think that helped.” We were disappointed. No thinking foxy thoughts? “No,” she said. “It was… a virus.”
