While Park Slope is busy giving disabled birds ironic nicknames, New Jerseyans are doing right by our avian friends. Tammy, an 11-pound wild turkey, was rescued off of the New Jersey Turnpike today after becoming a fixture of the stretch of asphalt over the past few days. And now she’s going somewhere safe.
“This bird just loved to sit there and hang out,” said NJ Turnpike spokesman Joe Orlando. “She didn’t want to leave.”
Once rescued, Tammy was taken to a South Jersey zoo, where she will live with another turkey named Gobbler. Their children will be growing up gobbly.
