Diane Sawyer, whose debut as anchor of World News Tonight was studiously un-hyped by ABC, won steady ratings during her first week. She sat comfortably in second place, about 800,000 viewers behind Brian Williams over at NBC, but still about 2.4 million ahead of former morning-rival Katie Couric at CBS. That must have felt nice.
