If Jay Walder, the head of the MTA, is to be trusted, subway fares will not increase next year. This despite the State Legislature cutting $140 million from the MTA’s already depleted budget yesterday. Of course, this is the MTA so a 2010 with no fare increase will be followed by a 2011 with a 7.5 percent fare hike. Better start saving for a bike. [City Room/NYT]
