The Obama administration will announce today that a prison in Thomson, Illinois, will become the new Guantánamo Bay, a move Congress will have to approve. Supporters of the decision, including the village president and the governor, are excited about the expected 3,000 jobs the move will create. But critics, including the area’s representative in Congress, see images of Al Qaeda running loose through the countryside. As an added security measure, though, this sign will be changed to read “Do Not Pick Up Hitchhikers Especially Al Qaeda Hitchhikers.” [NYT]
