When Nick Denton acquired Cityfile.com this month and installed editor Remy Stern in the top position at his Gawker.com, he claimed that “Cityfile will be the New York and media industry channel on Gawker.” But though many blog posts on Gawker have dealt with New York, and media, since then, none have been filed under the “Cityfile” channel. (Stern’s directory of people profiles will take a long time to technologically incorporate into the new site, we hear.) While Denton assures us that money did indeed change hands in the deal to shutter Cityfile and adopt its content, doesn’t it seem more and more that in many ways, the whole thing was just a bargain to get Stern — long an object of Denton’s interest — onboard?
