After hesitating gestures in that direction, national community-organizing group ACORN has announced that it will close all remaining state affiliates in the face of mounting financial troubles. The group will be effectively disbanded by the end of the month. Despite the fact that a Brooklyn judge recently ruled that so-called “sting footage” of the group proved no illegal activity, ACORN chief executive Bertha Lewis said, “our vindication on the facts doesn’t necessarily pay the bills.” Somewhere out there, vocal ACORN foes Andrew Breitbart and Glenn Beck are probably cracking open the non-alcoholic sparkling cider.
