Jon Stewart pulled off one of his more elaborate and successful bits on tonight’s Daily Show, opening the show and then continuing for about twenty minutes in a brutal parody of Glenn Beck. Oh, and he did the whole thing in character as Beck, to boot.
Toward the end of the segment he really went all out, exaggerating Beck’s rabid tics and mannerisms to “prove” that if you have even the slightest religious tendencies, then you clearly must support a theocracy. As Stewart puts it, channeling the Tao of Beck: “If you subscribe to an idea, you also subscribe to that idea’s ideology and to every possible negative consequence that that ideology even remotely implies when you carry it to absurd extremes.”
