Obama on Health-Care Reform: ‘It Was the Right Vote’

Barack Obama addressed the nation from the East Room tonight after the House passed the historic health-care reform bill. “This isn’t radical reform, but it is major reform,” he said, “This is what change looks like.” With Vice-President Joe Biden by his side, he thanked members of Congress and his staff, and everyone who voted and fought for the bill: “This moment is possible because of you.” Obama took no questions from the room after the seven-minute speech.

Tonight’s vote is not a victory for any one party,” the president said, before adding, “I know this wasn’t an easy vote for a lot of people, but it was the right vote.”
