Report: Christiane Amanpour Offered This Week Gig

CNN reporter Christiane Amanpour has been telling people that she was offered the currently open anchor seat at ABC’s popular Sunday program, This Week, reports FishbowlDC. Since former host George Stephanopoulos left to take over Good Morning America from Diane Sawyer last December, the show has had a rotating cast of hosts, including Barbara Walters and ABC News reporter Jake Tapper. According to Politico, Tapper, or colleague Terry Moran or PBS’s Gwen Ifill, were the widely discussed lead candidates for the politics-oriented role, so Amanpour, with her reputation for foreign reporting, was a bit of a surprise. FishbowlDC claims that “as of this moment she is declaring a 50-50 chance that she’s going to accept the offer” — an offer that apparently includes a change in the focus of the program to more international stories, and a move from D.C. to New York as a home base. (The latter part, we think, is too bad. We like the idea of Christiane Amanpour, the master of getting to the heart of ruinous and revolting human drama the world over, having to move to Washington.)
