An aide to Mayor Bloomberg was indicted today for committing what Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance Jr. called an “audacious” act: taking $1.1 million of the mayor’s campaign funds and using the bulk of it to buy himself a house. According to the Daily News, the aide, John Haggerty, a longtime fixture in Queens Republican politics, was “close” to the mayor and “one of his most trusted aides.” If only he had dated Bloomberg, he probably would have just been given the money.
